Vladimir Gonzales wins 3rd Project Checkmate 2100 below Chess Tournament 2025

The 3rd Project Checkmate 2100 below Chess Tournament 2025 on May 17, 2025 at iMall, Canlubang, Calamba, witnessed a remarkable performance by Vladimir Gonzales, who clinched victory with a flawless 7/7 score. This tournament was particularly challenging, drawing top-tier players from Laguna and nearby provinces who are eager to claim the title.

From the very start, the 3rd seed Vladimir showcased exceptional strategic acumen and deep concentration, setting the tone with decisive victories in the initial rounds. Each match saw his navigating complex positions and employing a mix of aggressive and defensive tactics and outmaneuver his opponents.

In the first six rounds he defeated Gabriel Simon Rogel Dantoc, Lans Marko Magbojos, Ruel Bautista, Jose Puyo, Real Spencer, Joemarie Villa Delgado. The last round was the critical one, (he only need a draw to claim the title) where he defeated Tom Maverick Saluba, avoiding the winner over the other in case they tie with 6/7 points, after winning the last round he played perfectly with 7/7 points and securing the title.

The atmosphere was fully-airconed inside the mall eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.
