Clyde Jared Torena wins 3rd Project Checkmate U14 Below Chess Tournament 2025

The 3rd Project Checkmate U14 below Chess Tournament 2025 on May 17, 2025 at iMall, Canlubang, Calamba, witnessed a remarkable performance by Clyde Jared Torena, who finished undefeated with a 6.5/7 score. This tournament unfolded with much enthusiasm, bringing together a mix of spirited young talents and veterans across Calabarzon.

Clyde Jared pondering his next move

From the very start, the top seed Clyde Jared showcased exceptional tactical acumen and deep concentration, setting the tone with decisive victories in the initial rounds. Each match saw his navigating balanced positions and employing a mix of aggressive and defensive tactics and outmaneuver his opponents.

Throught the tournament, he managed to defeat all his opponents: Jhon Paulo Ferriol, Maddox Dela Cruz, Zafirah Jahly Torena, Julian Miguel Caceres, Earl Nygel Cabalhin and Aljhur Ferolino except in round 5 against Jan Carlsen Matencio, where he got the critical half point. In the final round, he won against Aljhur and became the sole winner with 6.5/7 points.

The atmosphere was fully-airconed inside the mall eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.

4th Place: Maddox Dela Cruz - P600 + medal

5th Place: Earl Nygel Cabalhin - P500 + medal
