Joseph Balmaceda wins the 6th National Master Gerald Ferriol 1915 Below Chess Tournament

While winning the Sta Cruz 1799 FIDE-rated Chess Tournament last day (June 28, 2025),

Joseph Balmaceda again emerged victorious at the 6th National Master Gerald Ferriol 1915 Below Chess Tournament, held on last June 29, 2025 at GMG Chess Club, Binan, with an impressive score of 6/7 together with Ace Bryant Ortega and secured the title via most number of wins, demonstrating consistent performance throughout the tournament. His noteworthy victories included wins against Edwin Caballero, Roger Rosagaso and Elcid Estaron.

Ace Bryant Ortega secured second place, also with 6/7 points, but was edged out on tie-breaks. He delivered super strong performances, particularly in the last 5 rounds, with key wins against Jonard Osena, Marlon Berenguila and Mark Alvin Chua.

Roydan Alfaro claimed third place with 5.5 points. His strategic prowess was evident with victories over Joselito Nadres and Ira Jell Hamelarin, contributing to his high standing.

A very nice atmosphere, it was fully-airconed inside the mall, a lot of chess fanatics eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.
