Jerome Villanueva wins the 1st GMG Chess Non-Master Open Cup 2025

In a stunning display of tactical prowess and unwavering focus, Jerome Villanueva emerged victorious at The 1st GMG Chess Non-Master Cup Tournament 2025 last January 25, 2025 at Checkpoint Mall, Calamba City. He clinched the championship title with an impressive score of 6.5/7 points.

His victory was characterized by an unblemished record through the first six matches (6/6), with Jewel Mae Aguilar, Miguel Arond Galleguez, Michael Gastala, Vincent Ryu Dimayuga, Ace Christian Alcira, Janmyl Dilan Tisado, where he exhibited strategic brilliance and captured full points against each of his opponents.

In what was arguably the most pivotal game, his final match ended in a draw with Kevin Arquero, securing his top spot in the tournament with a half-point lead over three others Vincent Ryu Dimayuga, Janmyl Dilan Tisado and Kevin Arquero. This strategic draw not only showcased his astute endgame management but also demonstrated his maturity in ensuring tournament victory without unnecessary risk.

A very nice atmosphere where some watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.
