NM Gerald Ferriol NT wins 1st EIS FIDE-rated Open Chess Tournament 2018

The EIS Open Chess Tournament 2018 concluded with an impressive performance by NM Gerald Ferriol, who clinched the championship title against IM Stokke Kjetil in the final round with an outstanding score of 5.5/6 points. Held at the prestigious Milne Auditorium, EIS Bangkok, this annual event attracted talented players from diverse regions, each vying for the top honors.

The tournament, structured in a 6-rounds, Swiss-system format with 25 mins each player play to finish game. Gerald's only draw occurred in a tightly contested match against FM Jony Habla, known for his defensive prowess. His victories, however, were decisive, often showcasing brilliant middle-game tactics and endgame precision that left little room for his competitors to challenge his supremacy.

Throughout the tournament, Ferriol's strategic vision, determination, experience and unwavering composure were evident in his gameplay. His last 4 consecutive wins over Nathaniel Loyaga, NM Loiue Salvador, FM Vaingorten Yaaqov and IM Stokke Kjetil resulted in his tournament victory with half-point lead.

His ability to capitalize on subtle nuances and exploit his opponents' positional weaknesses was a testament to his exceptional insight and analytical prowess, which ultimately set him apart as a force to be reckoned with.
