Joven Balsalubre wins Koko Pimentel Marikina Christmas Open Chess Festival 2024

In a dramatic conclusion marked by intense tension, Joven Balsalubre emerged victorious at the Koko Pimentel Marikina Christmas Open Chess Festival 2024 held on last December 28-29, 2024 at Ayala Mall Felis, Marikina, overcoming the tiebreak situation.

Joven demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic brilliance throughout the 2-day tournament, finishing with an impressive score of 7.5/9 points together with Carlo Caranyagan, both hungry for triumph. However, it was Joven’s superior tiebreak by winner over the other.

A very nice atmosphere, it was fully-airconed inside the mall, a lot of chess fanatics eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.
