Rommel Lucion wins the 15th GMG Chess 1950 Tournament

In a stunning display of tactical prowess and unwavering focus, Rommel emerged victorious at the 15th GMG Chess 1950 Tournament last October 04, 2026 at
Robinson South Galleria. He clinched the championship title with an impressive score of 6/7 points.

His victory was characterized by an unblemished record through the first six matches (5.5/6), with John Khien Dapitan, Sonnie Ibori, Jan Carlsen Matencio, Kena Areld Galleguez, Ranniel Ralf Lugo where he exhibited strategic brilliance and captured full points against each of his opponents. While drew with Christian Jacob Calamba in the 4th round.

In what was arguably the most pivotal game, his final match ended in a agreed draw with 4th placed Christian Ace Alcira securing his top spot in the tournament with a half-point lead. only showcased his astute endgame management but also demonstrated his maturity in ensuring tournament victory without unnecessary risk. While Alcira got the unexpected lowest tie-breaker with 2nd placed Ranniel Ralf Lugo and 3rd placed Kena Areld Gelleguez.

The atmosphere was fully-airconed inside the Robinson mall eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike. Many thanks to Mam Janine Sinag, Mam Dheyvaaa Robinson's staffs and management for providing us a great venue for this tournament. And expecting more players to join in our subsequent tournaments.
