From the very start, the 3rd seed Marlon showcased exceptional strategic acumen and deep concentration, setting the tone with decisive victories in the initial rounds. Each match saw his navigating complex positions and employing a mix of aggressive and defensive tactics and outmaneuver his opponents.

The 4th Binan Chess Association 2000 below Chess Tournament 2025 on July 20, 2025 at Pavilion Mall, Binan, witnessed a remarkable performance by Marlon Berenguila, with an impressive score of 6/7 together with Jomarie Roluna and secured the title via winner over the other tiebreak, demonstrating consistent performance throughout the tournament. In his 6 wins he defeated 5 strong opponents namely the top seed Joshua Manire, veteran Angelo Caubang, Rey Julius Taguba, 2nd placer Jomarie Roluna and Ferdinand Peralta.

The expected game happen between the top 2 placers.

The unrated Jomarie Roluna secured second place, also with 6/7 points, but was edged out on tie-breaks. He delivered strong performances, particularly in the middle rounds, with key wins against Roy Rojo, Christian Ace Alcira, Christian Jacob Calamba and Webster Lagera.

In the final round, Black (Rojo) was winning but missed the win because of time trouble, White has threat of Bh2 (trapping the queen).

  • 4th Place: Jan Carlsen Matencio - (Champion in U16 below) trophy + e-certificate

  • 5th Place: Jenard Osenao - P500 + e-certificate

  • 6th Place: Roy Rojo - P500 + e-certificate

  • 7th Place: Ferdinand Peralta - P500 + e-certificate

  • 8th Place: Angelo Caubang - P500 + e-certificate

Again, thanks to all the players, guardians, Pavilion Mall management and staffs and Binan Chess officers without all of you, this event can't become a successful tournament. See you all in our subsequent tournaments. Also, thanks to our Binan Chess members and students who continue supporting us!

Finishing the tournament, Marlon not only claimed the title but also cemented his status as a veteran player in the Philippines Chess. His outstanding achievement is a beacon of inspiration for fellow players and chess enthusiasts.

The atmosphere was fully-airconed inside the Pavilion mall eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike. Many Thanks to Sir Robin Castaneda, Mam Erica Mae Catinding, Pavilion Mall staffs and management for providing us a great venue for this tournament. And expecting more players to join in our subsequent tournaments.
