Israelito Rillaroza wins 24th PCCC Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024

 

The 24th PCCC Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024 on December 28, 2024 at Baguio Center Mall witnessed a remarkable performance by Israelito Rillaroza, who clinched victory with a flawless 7/7 score. This year’s tournament was particularly challenging, drawing top-tier players from around the region eager to claim the title.

From the very start, the top seed Israelito showcased exceptional strategic acumen and deep concentration, setting the tone with decisive victories in the initial rounds. Each match saw him navigating complex positions and employing a mix of aggressive and defensive tactics, tailored finely to outmaneuver his opponents.

His 6th and 7th rounds were no less impressive, showing not only his tactical brilliance but also his resilience in overcoming challenging scenarios. In round 6 he faced his contender, 6th seed  Xyrus Gil Arinos, here his calculated risks paid off, securing the essential one point. And at the last round, the crucial match where he defeated the 2nd seed AGM Daryl Penaflorida, when he navigated his pieces with both caution and daring, ultimately outplaying his adversaries and secured the victory.

The final match, witnessed by an enthusiastic audience, encapsulated the thrill of chess competition. Under the keen eyes of spectators, Israelito maintained his calm demeanor and executed a striking combination, ensuring his unblemished record.

The atmosphere was fully-airconed inside the mall eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.

With this victory, Israelito demonstrates a promising platform for future national and international participation, showcasing the depth of talent and competitive spirit thriving in the local chess scene.

The PCCC is committed to promote chess in the northern part of the Phippines by cnducting a regular chess tournament in the region.

Overall, the 24th PCCC Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2024 was a celebration of tactical prowess and passionate gameplay, and Israelito Rillaroza’s perfect performance will be remembered as one of the event’s historic highlights in the Nortern Luzon.
