Gary Legaspi wins the 2nd Project Checkmate Chess Tournament 2025

In a dramatic conclusion marked by competitive tension, Gary Legaspi emerged victorious at the 2nd Project Checkmate Chess Tournament 2025 held on last April 27, 2025 at GMG Chess Club Binan, overcoming a rare and challenging quadriple tie situation.

Gary demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic brilliance throughout the tournament, finishing with score of 3.5/5 points together with Christian Paul Florin, Jan Carlsen Matencio and Spencer Real, each equally hungry for triumph. However, it was Gary’s superior buchholz with 13 set him apart.

Despite losing his 2nd game with Jose Puyo, Gary made a 2-winning streak against Jan Carlsen Matencio and Teoderico Belicena and drew his last game against Spencer Real resulting in a quadriple tie in the first place.
