Benjamin Joseph Acosta emerged victorious in the tournament with 6.5/7 points, a half point ahead with 2nd placer Clyde Jared Torena 6/7. Demonstrating consistent performance throughout the tournament. His noteworthy victories included wins against Kristoff Charles Hernandez and Zafirah Jahly Torena.

Rising Stars Clash: The 25th Binan Chess Association U16 Championship Concludes after Intense Battles

Umbria Binan, September 06, 2026 – The future of chess was on full display this weekend as many of the region’s finest youth players gathered to compete in the 25th Binan Chess Championship Under-16 Championship. Over 7 rounds of high-intensity classical chess, the tournament delivered dramatic upsets, tactical masterclasses, and an incredible display of sportsmanship.

When the final tournament clocks stopped, the event honored its top 7 overall finishers alongside 5 special category prize winners, ensuring a wide celebration of talent across the field.

The atmosphere was fully-airconed inside the Umbria mall eagerly watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike. Many Thanks to Mam Christine Manimtim and Umbria staffs and management for providing us a great venue for this tournament. And expecting more players to join in our subsequent tournaments.

The level of play we witnessed this weekend proves that youth chess is stronger than ever," said Tournament Director NM Gerald Ferriol during the closing ceremony. "With many players fighting hard in every single round, every single prize winner truly earned their reward. The organizers extended their gratitude to the arbiters, parents, and sponsors who made the event possible. Planning is already underway for next year's edition, which promises to be even larger.

This a national rated tournament. All unrated players will have national chess ID and national rating.
